Importance of Photographs in Modeling Portfolio

How to make a modeling portfolio?  This is the primary concern confronting those who are new to the modeling industry.  The quality of your photograph is of paramount significance in the successful presentation of your profile.  The quality of your photos can make or mar your chance of selection as a model.  Never ever use any photograph produced through amateurish process.  Never resort to any short-cuts or easy procedure.  That can spoil your chances even before you start. Make a wide-ranging enquiry to spot the best professional photographer available.  You can ask the modeling agency to get you a best photographer.  Also, you can search though the local directories, the Internet, etc.  Then visit the photographer’s place.   Tell her/him that you intend to make a modeling portfolio.  Ask about the price, the format of the photos, time for execution, etc.  Before placing an order, see some sample photographs they have done and make sure you are satisfied with the quality.

In order to ensure the quality of your portfolio photos, you need to hire a professional make-up artist also.  You can ask the photographer whether they provide make-up artists and the cost.  Having fixed the photographer and the make-up artist, you have to look for clothes and posing postures suitable for your modeling portfolio.  This you can find out from the Internet or from fashion and lifestyle publications.  You should select a variety of formal and causal looks.  If you have some other performing skills like music, you can take a shot in that pose also.

Before the photo shot for your modeling portfolio, keep your skin, nails and hair in good condition.  You should maintain a moderate and balanced diet a few days before the shot.  Abstain from alcohol during the days and have good sleep the night previous.  Before the shot, tell the photographer and the make-up artist the sort of looks you want.  Tell the photographer about the pose and posture you want.  Select the best photos for your modeling portfolio.  It is not your family album.  Don’t attach any sentiments to photos to put them in the portfolio.  Put only the photos that can “market” you.

Improper photos in your modeling portfolio can “de-market” you and your otherwise possible chances can be diminished. Don’t put in your portfolio photos that are older than one year.  If you are publishing your modeling profile and portfolio, provide sufficient data, statistics and information. It will facilitate the assessment of your suitability for particular projects.  Keep your modeling profile and portfolio updated periodically.

Don’t try to become oversmart, be honest while asking questions or asked for your opinions. Thanks.
